Disinfecting Irrigation Water for Disease Management

            November 29, 2016

            Ray Houweling

Here is an interesting article reviewing alternate types of water treatment for greenhouse irrigation. In this study it shows that Thermotolerant Coliform (Escherichia coli is a thermotolerant coliform) lasts more than 48 hours in water with a reading of less than 650 mV ORP, but is destroyed in less than 30s in ORP readings of greater than 665 mV ORP.

In our Ozone systems, an ORP of greater than 750 mV is typical of what is being achieved in the reaction tank, and this is occurring for more than 2 minutes.

Also, according to this report, ozone treatment has been demonstrated to be effective in reducing Cucumber Mosaic Virus in the irrigation water.
